The HOUR of CODE is Here at GVS!

posted Dec 4, 2017, 10:33 AM by Randy Britton

This week is Computer Science Education Week, and we will be having an Hour of Code for every class at GVS during their Library Special all week!

Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek) is an annual program dedicated to inspiring K-12 students to take interest in computer science.

Originally conceived by the Computing in the Core coalition, Code.org® organizes CSEdWeek as a grassroots campaign supported by 350 partners and 100,000 educators worldwide.

CSEdWeek is held in recognition of the birthday of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper (December 9, 1906).

If you open your Chrome Browser this week, the Google Doodle is a mini-Hour of Code just for you to try out!  I encourage you all to take a few minutes and be a coder!

New GVS Report Cards!

posted Sep 18, 2017, 6:45 AM by Randy Britton

Hello GVS Families,

For those of you who are used to looking at Powerschool, you may find that it looks a bit different in a competency based learning model. When you assess students in a competency model, you are looking for mastery of a competency not an averaging of scores. Teachers are using specific criteria for measuring whether or not a student has demonstrated competency. The codes we will be using to report progress are as follows:

C - competent
P - progressing toward competent
N - not making adequate progress
I - insufficient work submitted
NR - not reported at this time

Here is a sample of what our new report card looks like!
