Dear GVS Families,
Happy New Year! On January 1st our new Grantham School District website went live! If you haven't visited the website yet, I encourage you to! It looks great, and it is very user friendly (even on your phone)!
The website has an integrated newsletter creator which I am using today and is the reason why the newsletter looks different this week. What do you think?

Afternoon Carline and Preschool Pick Up:
Please note that the parking spaces by the preschool playground are reserved for preschool parents for drop off and pick up.
When waiting in the car line for your K-6th grader(s), please attempt to keep the line to the far right by the woods/cars so that preschool parents can get by on the left. As well, please attempt to leave an opening where the preschool parents park so that they can scoot past your cars and get to a spot for pick up. Thank you so much!

From our Reading Specialist, Mrs. Buckley:
Supporting Reading Development at Home
Here are some suggested ways to incorporate learning into daily life.
- It is important that children have many opportunities to practice oral language skills (listening and speaking) as a basis for their foundational literacy.
- Allowing them to practice skills will help them develop their fluency as they read (so they read aloud smoothly and not robotic).
- Children benefit from hearing others read aloud fluently (e.g., with a fluent reader at home, in an audio book).
- For multilingual learners, It is important to foster literacy skills in a child’s first language.
What do you do when your child is reading and gets stuck on a “tricky” word?
- Encourage them to look at all of the letters in the word.
- Have your child point to the letters as they say the sounds and then blend them together to say the word.
- Have your child reread the sentence with the word they read to see if it makes sense.
- Enjoy the time with your child!
